Sponsor a Young Scholar

How does it work?

When you sponsor a Young Scholar at Education First Cambodia, it means a major step forward for a child in the early stages of his or her educational career. Your support ensures that the student is provided with a quality education for the official Cambodian government curriculum, and also English language skills. In addition, our experience shows that sponsorship is a positive step forward in the lives of the children, and also in the lives of the sponsors.

Providing a smart, impoverished child with a quality education early in life lifts the child out of the cycle of poverty, providing them with the education and skills that will take them onto university or vocational training.

Sponsorship of a child requires a commitment of a $100/month donation. That covers the cost of the child’s Cambodian education and English language training. It also covers the cost of school uniforms, school supplies, and related expenses. Education First Cambodia is a 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 47-1669028), and all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Once your sponsorship is established, you will receive information about your sponsored Young Scholar and a photograph. EFC’s staff will also provide updated information on your sponsored Young Scholar.

You are encouraged to develop your own relationship with your sponsored Young Scholar through letters, cards or e-mails. Our staff will help the child translate your e-mails from English into Khmer, and the child’s e-mails from Khmer into English. We ask that you write one time per month, even if it is only a sentence or two. When children get a letter or e-mail from their sponsors, it means more to them than you can imagine.

You are also encouraged to come to Cambodia and meet your sponsored Young Scholar! For more information on the procedures for visiting with your sponsored child, please see the EFC Sponsorship Guidelines.
